Let’s Explore Together

Kim is currently taking new students of all singing levels in both Western classical singing and musical theatre styles. Their student population feels generally comfortable in their technique and are looking to find ease in expression and character embodiment.

Beginners looking to explore finding their voice are also highly encouraged to reach out.

Kim is proud to serve the LGBTQIA+ singing community, specifically Trans/Gender-Expansive singers at all stages of transition.

Lessons will be held online, for the time being.

Find your tRUE voice

My goal for all students is growth as musicians, and human beings, through fostering a holistic exploration of their instruments, and to arm them with the tools they will need to find their true voice. This results in increased ease in vocal production, general musical confidence, improved technical singing, stage presence, and self knowledge.

Through somatic experiencing and mindful singing practices, both in lesson and at home, I equip students to explore their instruments, increasing their confidence and felt-sense knowledge of their own instrument.

Come as you are

Creating a safe space for students of all identities is integral to my work. One cannot learn if one does not feel safe. I am openly queer and nonbinary, and provide a space where all my students can be themselves. I have zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, anti-fat bias, or any other form of discrimination. I believe in impact over intent, and use this idea to promote the skills of empathy and compassion.

By using the student’s own live experiences, I impart tools to use a portion of that emotional flavor to create depth and reality into a performance, while not letting that experience overwhelm them. This prevents them from uprooting their connection to the audience and cause bodily tension that is in opposition to the flexibility needed in vocal technique.

I try to embody the “warm demander” model: someone who has high expectations but also retains humanity and compassion, remaining flexible when needed and prioritizing wellbeing to prevent burnout. I am vulnerable and real with my students, modeling that all of us are human and as long as we do the best with what we have in each moment, we will persist. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to show my students how to find their own voice, and use every ounce of their own power for expressive and emotive music making.
